Geoff Pretty

Associate Head, Pro-Coach & Test Preparation

Ex-police, Qualified as IAM Roadsmart Examiner, Member of DVSA ‘Register of Post-Test Motorcycle Trainers’, Advance award Motorcycle Instructor (BTEC), RoSPA Gold, IAM- Group observer, Senior Observer, National Observer, Masters Distinction, Masters Mentor

For many years Geoff was the main liaison point between IAM RoadSmart's head office and the motorcycle groups in the South-East. His role was to share best practices, guide & assist them when developing new working practices, as well as helping them to address any issues raised which were affecting their performance.

Geoff was also employed as their consultant trainer (motorcycle), coaching/training corporate clients to advanced test standard.

These included AA motorcycle patrols, Network Rail & Tubelines supervisors, enabling them to attend incidents and emergencies promptly, whatever the traffic conditions.

In addition, Geoff trained customers undertaking the IAM RoadSmart ‘fast track;’ a concentrated course for those who wished to complete their test preparation in a short time. In all these roles he achieved a 100% pass rate.

During this time, he sat on various working parties helping to develop procedures, one of which was best practice in the use of radios as a training tool.

One of his current roles within his local group to mentor trainee observers, wishing to achieve the full qualification. I would watch them in action; then advise and guide them, passing on techniques to help them become the best they could be. So far, another 100% success rate.

Another role is that of cross-check observer; a quality check of associates deemed ready for test, assessing their readiness & highlighting any areas that still need a little to help ensure a successful outcome.

As an experienced coach & trainer he has become a focal point for colleagues seeking help and advice to enhance their own performance.
